My wife is looking into the laptop vs tablet thing right now. Important for her: screen, preferably touch, as a replacement for paper notes. That's a big plus for the ipad. Lightweight, small form factor. The Air is about the size and weight of the ipad including the magic keyboard and pen, but you can't leave half your macbook at home. She'll probably go for the iPad because she is comparing it to the remarkable tablet. Ipad with Lightroom is a more "complete" option.

Correction: The Japanese version can be muted. Once you put in a SIM that's not from Japan, it will enable the option. It was introduced in an update a few years ago. So, if you use the Japanese version in the UAE with a local carrier, you can silence it like other models.
